At Lake Jackson Dental Care, many of our orthodontic patients require the use of braces in order to correct their crooked or misaligned teeth. Our dentist office offers several options for braces:
- Invisalign Clear Braces
- Metal Braces
- ceramic braces
These options meet different needs for each patient, which often depends on the severity of the problem, financial constraints, or a preference on the time commitment.
Our dentists conduct a thorough examination of each patient to conclude exactly what type of braces will work best, how long they will need to wear them, as well as how the procedure will best fit the patient’s budget. Quite often, patients at our Lake Jackson dentist office can have their teeth straightened and braces removed in less than two years.
BRACES: MEETING THE DEMAND FOR STRAIGHT TEETH
The demand for braces continues to increase with each passing year and the demand starts sooner rather than later.
Over the past few decades, the amount of teenagers under the care of an orthodontist has increased to 80 percent (4 out of every 5). That is an astounding number. Even more interesting is that the average age for a person to visit their dentist to possibly begin straightening their teeth is 7 years old.
For various reasons, choosing braces at a young age makes sense. Younger teeth adjust more easily, which makes the process less difficult for the patient. Also, pre-teens and teenagers are still growing, this includes their perception of themselves. Straight teeth and a beautiful smile is a major source of self-confidence. Youth need to be confident going through their most impressionable years, and investing in braces is a proven way to help in that area.
MULTIPLE OPTIONS FOR BRACES
In order to adhere to the different needs of our dental patients, Lake Jackson Dental Care offers multiple options for braces. Some prefer not to have metal braces on their teeth because they do not wish to change their appearance. The use of Invisalign (clear braces) or ceramic braces can help remedy this issue. These invisible or teeth-colored braces ensure the patient does not have to undergo a drastic change and can still complete the process of straightening their teeth. Metal braces, however, have a number of positives that outweigh ceramic and clear braces. The following describe the differences between the three options:
Invisalign (clear braces) are more expensive than traditional metal braces and ceramic braces, but there are other positives that come with this smile reconstruction option. They are practically indistinguishable when worn, which often gives our patients the continued confidence they desire. These clear braces can be removed for a few hours each day, as long as they are worn at least 22 hours out of the day. This means, during meals or cleaning teeth, patients can remove them. Compared to metal or ceramic braces, Invisalign braces are more comfortable. Invisalign is often worn by adults who have already reached college or have begun their career, but wish to possess a more beautiful smile.
Metal braces
Metal braces are less expensive than ceramic and clear braces, and they typically straighten teeth quicker because they are stronger and cause less friction with the teeth.
Ceramic braces
Ceramic braces are made of a material and color that matches closely to your natural tooth color. For those reasons, they are more esthetic and expensive that the traditional metal braces. Also, ceramic braces are more brittle and prone to breakage and wear than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are typically only recommended for the top teeth and for teenagers or adult patients that are very conscientious about their appearance.
At Lake Jackson Dental Care, our staff takes the time to explain each and every detail of the orthodontic procedure. Our dentists are certain to answer any and all questions or concerns each patient may have. In many cases, our orthodontic clients have their braces removed within 18 to 24 months.

We also provide Care Credit for patients without dental insurance, or who have dental insurance that will not cover the entire cost of the procedure.
